Free NGS Assembly and Alignment for Genomic Sequencing Data

Free NGS Assembly and Alignment for Genomic Sequencing Data

December 18, 2018 Next-Gen Sequencing

5 Free NGS Assemblies for All Users (Free Trials Included!)

Assembly and Analysis for Any DNA Sequencing Project – Now at your fingertips

We know that for many researchers, performing large scale next-generation sequence alignments or de novo sequence assemblies on their computers can be a problem due to insufficient hard disk space or memory. At DNASTAR, we design our software with the researcher in mind. We spend countless hours optimizing our assembly and alignment tools to support NGS analysis on modest desktop and even laptop computers, without the need to update or upgrade computer hardware.  However, even the most modern computers sometimes often lack the hard disk space or memory required to perform large scale next-generation sequence alignment or de novo sequence assembly. We want to support you and your research needs, so we’ve developed DNASTAR Cloud Assemblies – an online assembly and alignment tool that integrates seamlessly with Lasergene Genomics.  DNASTAR Cloud Assemblies are compatible with all of our supported workflows,  from whole genome sequencing to RNA-Seq to targeted resequencing and more.

What kind of results can I expect?

Depending on your project type and number of samples, the total time to upload sequence data, run assemblies, and download the results can take anywhere from an hour for bacterial genomes to a day or more for multiple human genomes. See our benchmarks below.

NGS Assembly and Analysis: Step by Step Instructions

  1. Open SeqMan NGen.
  2. Choose the option to assemble on the DNASTAR Cloud.
  3. Enter your DNASTAR login credentials. If you don’t know your password, you can visit our signin page, and then click the “Forgot your password” link.
  4. Follow the instructions within SeqMan NGen to upload your data and set up your project. You can upload your own data or use the demo data available in the DNASTAR Cloud Data Drive.
  5. After downloading your results, you can analyze the sequence alignment, SNPs, and gene expression values on your local computer using Lasergene Genomics.

Watch the video below for further details on running assemblies on the DNASTAR Cloud.

How to Get your 5 FREE NGS Assemblies

If you are running a DNASTAR Lasergene trial issued after December 18, 2018, you already have access to five free assemblies. Depending on your project type, this could be anywhere from 4-5 sequencing samples. For templated assemblies, one assembly is used for the QSeq normalization step, leaving you with four samples that can be assembled and analyzed in a single project. For de novo assemblies, each sample is equivalent to one assembly.
